While the current economic outlook remains challenging, the Singapore Government has assured the public and pledged to keep as many people employed as possible. In his 2009 Budget statement, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam announced that various measures have been put in place to save jobs and expand recruitment for Singaporeans which includes 18,000 public-sector new jobs to be created over the next two years.

The Singapore Public Service is the largest employer in Singapore, employing some 110,000 public officers working in 15 Ministries, more than 60 Statutory Boards, and 9 Organs of State.
As part of this family, Singaporeans can expect a career full of excitement, challenges and infinite opportunities for advancement.

A career within this sector also provides you with a healthy work-life balance and pro-family environment. Work-life initiatives such as flexi-work hours, pro-family programmes, health screening exercises and etc. are common with most public sector jobs.
To promote good work-life practices and a pro-family culture, each public sector agency now has a Work-Life Advocate and a Work-Life Ambassador working towards the common goal of implementing effective work-life strategies and programmes that enhances employability.
The Public Service Division endorses this principle by participating and winning The “Work-Life Excellence Award 2008”, conferred by the Tripartite Committee on Work-Life Strategy which recognises employers who are committed to helping their employees harmonise work and personal commitments. Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, Land Transport Authority of Singapore and Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports were also amongst the past winners of this biennial award.
