The Influence of Infocomm Technology in Singapore
AT PLAY - “…the foundation of modern days’ necessities…”
Infocomm technology forms the focal point of most things that we do.
In an era of global technological advancement, it already has and will continue to dominate and influence the everyday lives of people. Modern day ‘necessities’ like mobile phones, internet and Facebook would be virtually non-existent if not for the creative innovations that sprouted from Infocomm.
AT WORK – “…the backbone of most organisations across all industries…”
The Infocomm Technology (IT) sector in Singapore is projected to continue providing opportunities, despite the general employment outlook being slightly more subdued this year.
Being one of the key components of our economy, the IT sector contributes some 6% to our national GDP. According to a survey conducted by Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) last year, there were 139,000 infocomm professionals employed in 2008 and some 6,500 infocomm job vacancies.
Career opportunities for infocomm professionals are ample, with the provision for a vast range of employment and advancement options. Many organizations today are faced with the increasing challenge of staying relevant in a business environment with fast accelerating change spurred by technological advancement. Hence, career opportunities for infocomm professionals are no longer restricted to infocomm organisations alone.
Today, organizations of every kind are dependent on information technology, including key business domains such as digital media and entertainment, financial services, healthcare, retail, and tourism and hospitality. Infocomm professionals are crucial and mandatory in this new millennium for setting the appropriate systems in place to drive and transform an organisation’s business towards its due success.
