SEEK's Work-From-Anywhere Policy: A Game-Changer for Global Talent

When Martin Piron joined SEEK in April 2022, he faced a dilemma. Less than two months into his new role as senior systems engineer, he had a month-long trip to Belgium already booked to visit family he hadn't seen in years due to pandemic restrictions.

"It was the first time I could go back in three or four years," Piron explained. "It's already booked, so [I thought] I guess I will have to take that as leave without pay because I've just started and haven't accumulated any leave."

Instead of accepting unpaid leave, his manager introduced him to SEEK's new work-from-anywhere policy, which allows employees to work remotely for up to four weeks annually. Piron became one of the first Australian SEEK employees to embrace this innovative benefit.

Three years later, the policy has transformed how Piron approaches work-life balance. He's now preparing for his third work-from-anywhere stint, having taken one every year since joining SEEK. For this expatriate employee, the arrangement has been life-changing, enabling him to maintain global family connections without burning through annual leave.

"There's a bit of upfront effort in planning and setting clear expectations, but it's absolutely worth it," said Piron's manager James Corcoran. "As a manager, you need to stay focused on results, not worry about when or where the work is being done."

This results-focused philosophy exemplifies SEEK's progressive approach to workplace flexibility. The policy demonstrates how forward-thinking employers are rethinking traditional boundaries, recognising that great work can happen anywhere in the world.

For people like Piron, SEEK's work-from-anywhere policy offers something invaluable: the ability to achieve "a different kind of work-life balance, connecting with family at a global scale" without sacrificing career progression or leave entitlements.

SEEK's innovative approach to remote work represents just one of the many progressive benefits that make the company an employer of choice in the competitive Asia-Pacific tech landscape.
