Junior Marketing Exec
Help! How to negotiate lowball salary for fresh grad?? 😭 I just graduated from NTU and got offered 2.8K as a jr. marketing exec in a local SME company. But the latest GES suggests that fresh grads from local unis get around 3.7K. Feeling a bit down that my salary doesn’t match the market rate. Any tips on how I can negotiate without work experience to back me up since it’s my first job ever?? Your advice would be a HUGE help! 🙏

I won’t recommend you to negotiate your salary since you’re new and have no skills/work experience that can help you justify the increment. Just do the job first and prove yourself to your employer. Later after a year maybe you can talk about salary again. For now, just be patient, watch and learn.

I also have the same thought w you guys. Hey Anushka, i tell you thiss.. it would be beneficial for you to look for a job that enriches your experience and career growth. Like.. what can you learn from it and what can you take with you down the line. Whether startups or big local companies..i noticed that they are good in giving hands-on experience towards their team. Focus on that first, the salary can come second.

Below 3K if local, around 3K-3.5K if you got into a multinational company. However, i strongly urge you to change your mindset to not focus too much on the salary first. Instead, focus on experience, getting a good boss/mentor, and culture fit. If you get these, and you’re mentored well, you’re bound to have a good foundation and your market value will quickly increase 👍🏻

Guess it’s just fine to go on with the offered salary. Finding jobs are hard now, maybe as time go, you’ll be offered salary raise.

If i were you… I’d be more focused on career growth than starting salary. Look for companies who value growth so in the next years you can actually demand for higher salary. You should do the same..

I’d be surprised if you can earn 3.7k or more with a local company. Unless you’re really lucky or you have connections 🙂, I highly suggest that you brace yourself to negotiate.

How about the company's benefits package? I bet is a permanent role, aite? Tbh, 2.8k + the possibility of getting absorbed (with 14 days AL, bonus & medical benefits) seems quite reasonable tho. I'd not necessarily recommend negotiating, but you could give it a shot. Not that im tryin to stop you from earning more. Worstcase is that they might perceive you as a demanding fresh graduate. If you accept the offer, you could start off in an awkward situation, which might not be ideal for your work.

Actually it’s okay to start small. Experience matters for a fresh grad like u. As time go, ur salary will also grow like ur experience 👍

Emm, try emphasizing your passion for the role and the potential you bring to the team. Don't forget to also mention the GES data politely and ask if there's room for discussion.. Good luck ✌️
