NEL Rolling Stock - Senior/ Assistant Engineer
Primary Objectives of Position
- Lead a team of senior / technicians to carry out scheduled Preventive Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance together on passenger trains/engineering vehicles/light rail vehicles/component/equipment as assigned by supervisor.
- Ensure the team comply with all PM & CM works and related tasks with approved work instructions, quality procedures, safety and operational procedures, and good maintenance standards.
- Plan and coordinate within the team and other teams to complete the assigned maintenance tasks within the established standard time.
- Ensure the team has the necessary qualifications and authorization to carry out daily tasks and any assigned tasks by supervisor.
- Responsible for the safety, welfare and discipline of the team.
- Responsible for the upkeep of the team equipment/tools and working environment.
Major Responsibilities
- Responsible for team’s quality and standards of the PM/CM works within the established standard time and be competent to carry out preventive and corrective maintenance tasks within the established standard time in accordance to work instructions and related documents, as assigned by supervisors.
- Exercise safety always, in accordance to established safety procedures. Responsible for the safety of self and all co-workers, inclusive of contractors.
- Demonstrate sufficient ability in diagnostic and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.
- Forecast and plan his team and resources to complete maintenance tasks and assigned tasks timely.
- Perform supporting maintenance activities such as Train Driver/Shunter, overhead crane operator, forklift driver, etc. as authorized and required by the supervisor.
- Able to work on a shift roster system in accordance with the MOM guidelines and the Collective Agreement.
- Undertake any other tasks or functions that are incidental or ancillary to the performance of the works assigned by supervisor.
The above activities are no means exhaustive and are subjected to amendment whenever is needed.
Specific Safety Responsibilities
- Undertake daily safety checks on trains and only signs trains off as fit for service after they have been properly checked.
- Carry out repairs on trains in a safe way according to training received and only signs the work off as complete after thorough checks have been carried out.
- Undertake work in accordance with Company Rules and Procedures.
- Remains constantly vigilant for unexpected defects on trains and report them immediately to his Supervisor.
Job Specifications
Minimum Education / Qualifications
- Higher Nitec (with Experience) or Diploma in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering).
Minimum Years of Relevant Experience
- Minimum 2 years relevant working experience in maintenance/repair/installation of electrical or mechanical equipment.
- Fresh graduate with good academic results will also be considered.
- Experience in railway environment will be an added advantage.
Knowledge/Skills
- Must have analytical & fault-finding skills.
- Understand at least two of electrical/electronic/air conditioning/pneumatic/ mechanical system.

- Required to work on 3 rotating shift and required to be on 24 hours standby round the clock for any unforeseen emergency recall
