Research Assistant GTAI
The Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) is part of a network of 150 offices of the German bilateral Chambers of Industry and Commerce abroad in 93 countries. The Chamber is one of the largest national Business Chambers in Singapore with a membership of more than 600 representatives from a variety of industries from Germany and Singapore.
Germany Trade & Invest is the economic development agency of the Federal Republic of Germany. GTAI aims to strengthen the German economy by informing German companies about export markets, by attracting and advising foreign companies to enter the German market, and by marketing Germany as an attractive business location in Germany as well as abroad. GTAI as well as the SGC are part of the official foreign trade promotion of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Germany Trade & Invest’s investment promotion activities aim to attract foreign companies for Germany as a business location.
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our team as an Assistant for Trade and Investment. As a key member of our organisation, you will work closely with the Director Trade Singapore/ASEAN and the Head of Investment Promotion of Germany Trade & Invest's Investment Promotion division at the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) to support trade and investment activities.This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about international business and eager to contribute to economic development.
Responsibilities:
1. First point of contact: Engage with customers, acquire new leads, and provide initial consulting services in the local language under the guidance of the Director Trade and Head of Investment Promotion.
2. Trade fair participation: Attend trade fairs and represent our organisation, showcasing investment opportunities in Germany and identifying business opportunities for German companies in Southeast Asia.
3. Event preparation: Assist in organising and preparing events tailored to potential investors, ensuring smooth execution and effective engagement.
4. Presentations: Prepare and translate presentations, and accompany projects as directed by the Director Trade and Head of Investment Promotion.
5. Administrative support: Manage and provide administrative assistance to the Director Trade and Head of Investment Promotion , ensuring efficient workflow and seamless operations.
6. Investment promotion activities: Gather high-quality information on companies and industrial sectors, conduct research, and compile data to support investment promotion efforts.
7. Appointment coordination: Assist in setting up and organising appointments, ensuring accurate scheduling and efficient communication.
8. Target lists and research: Conduct research on economic development, industry trends, and potential target companies.
9. Outreach and relationship building: Establish and nurture relationships with various stakeholders such as government agencies, industry associations, and organisations.
10. Business network development: Support the Director Trade and Head of Investment Promotion in establishing and expanding a strong business network to facilitate trade and investment opportunities.
11. Statistical analysis: Conduct economic and industry analyses, assess statistical data, and prepare presentations to support informed decision-making.
12. Customer inquiries: Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries, providing accurate information and addressing their needs.
13. Press archive maintenance: Set up and maintain a comprehensive press archive, keeping track of relevant news and updates in the industry.
14. Project work: Demonstrate your ability to work on projects effectively, showcasing your organisational skills and ability to perform under pressure.
15. Technical proficiency: Utilize common MS Office programs, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, to analyse data, create reports, and deliver impactful presentations.
16. Interpersonal skills: Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, cultivating effective relationships with customers and colleagues.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
This position is open to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents only. Work pass sponsorship is not available for this position.
1. Graduate in economics or related fields, with a solid understanding of economic contexts.
2. Good knowledge of the Singapore economy and ideally the entire ASEAN region.
3. Technical proficiency in information analysis, research, and data evaluation.
4. International mindset with relevant experience.
5. Sound understanding of macroeconomic concepts.
6. At least two years of experience in the industry.
7. Passion for international topics.
8. High affinity for Germany as a business location.
9. Proven ability to work on projects and deliver results under pressure.
10. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
11. Proficiency in common MS Office programs, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
12. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively engage with customers.
13. Fluency in English is necessary and proficient German language skills are desirable as the position requires you to communicate with German stakeholders and prepare written documents, presentations etc. in both languages.
