As Singapore’s national HealthTech agency, Synapxe stands at the nexus of of two very fast-moving sectors: healthcare and technology. In the words of Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, Synapxe is a “critical entity” that ensures medical information—from medical records to healthcare assistance—flows seamlessly throughout the entire healthcare ecosystem.

A driving force behind technology development plans, Synapxe also plays a strategic role in enabling the shift to the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Healthier SG programme, which focuses on preventive care and aims to have citizens take charge of their own health. They operate HealthHub, a one-stop platform for digital health that equips citizens with information on medical conditions, medical listings, and secure access to health records online or through an app.

As Synapxe moves into a new era of health tech, they are also tapping into advanced deep learning and AI capabilities for future projects.

May Wee, Synapxe’s Chief Human Resource Officer, shares the company’s strategy on managing talent and “green harvesting” to develop and harness emerging talent.

I understand that Synapxe took on its new brand name to reflect its commitment to next-generation health technologies. Can you share about some of Synapxe's new healthtech projects?

Synapxe’s new identity is part of our organisation’s transformation journey. Our new brand reflects our muti-faceted role as a connector to accelerate innovation and transformation towards the future of health. The span of the systems is wide, and includes areas in electronic medical record, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, registration and billing, financial aid, community care, telehealth and more. Every year, we deliver new projects or enhancements to improve population health as well as transform healthcare delivery. We will continue to harness the transformative force of smart technologies like generative AI and cloud to power key programmes.

With the vision of “Inspiring Tomorrow’s Health”, we define the capacity and capabilities needed to address the current and future health tech demands, aligned to Singapore’s overall healthcare ecosystem needs. This means that we anticipate and plan for the technology needs for the next lap, and plan the capacities and capabilities needed to get us there.

  • A diverse pool of health and tech experts to guide. and mentor one on the job.

Can you share about the HealthTech Associate Programme (HAP) and how graduates have benefited from it?

As demand grows for technical capabilities to meet these goals, Synapxe also actively recruits fresh graduates each year for roles such as Systems Analyst, Software Engineer, Data Analyst, Systems Engineer, and Cybersecurity Analyst.

For budding young tech talents, we have the HealthTech Associate Programme (HAP), which provides structured foundation training to assimilate them into the work environment. Apart from on-the-job training, HAP also holds workshops, team activities, and interaction sessions to hone their professional skills.

In addition, interns who perform exceptionally well during their structured internship with Synapxe, will be fast-tracked into our HealthTech Associate Programme:

“The HealthTech Associate Programme has truly been a rewarding journey. The programme’s tailored curriculum equipped me with essential soft skills, laying a strong foundation for my entry into the professional arena. The trainers, with their expertise and engaging approach, not only shared vital skills but also provided practical insights.
