inCareer advice

I just started at this new company about 2 months ago. I've never taken any MC/AL because I'm still under probation. But this week, I had a terrible stomach ache on Monday morning. Went to the loo countless times so I texted my boss telling her that I'm going to get an MC. Surprisingly, she got super angry and she said NOBODY should take MC on Monday. It's just an unspoken rule in the working world. Question: Is it true? Second, should I resign before I got confirmed next month?

I purposely lowered down my expected salary to match all the jobs that I applied for and to my surprise, there are still companies who don't hire me because they think I might leave as soon as I found a better job with higher salary. 😅 Even though I've tried my best to convince them that I'm gonna stay as long as possible, they just find it hard to believe. FYI, there are people like me.. we are hungry for experience, skills and knowledge, not just mere paycheck. Give us a chance, ok? 😉

Those who got retrenched, how do you bounce back? Need some supportive words from you guys. 🙏 Since I got laid off last year, it's been so challenging getting back on my feet. Can't help but to compare myself with my peers who are enjoying life with families, owning properties, buying cars, travelling overseas while me struggling to secure a new job at 37 years old. Never once I imagine myself would be in this situation so it's been very hard for me to navigate. Pray for my mental health TQ

If you work from home or remotely, how long do you take to respond to work email or to your boss's whatsapp text? A - immediately B - after 10 mins C- after 30 mins D - after 1-2 hours Whatever your answer is, tell me your reasons below because I wanna know why! FYI, I'm a manager and I'm so annoyed when people especially my team, reply me late! Why ha? I thought you're supposed to be contactable at all times??

Just sharing my experience. For companies who don't have enough budget to hire someone PERMANENTLY, please don't advertise your job as so and then suddenly change it to contract-based without informing the candidate first. Luckily I haven't signed anything. I went through all the process from start to end thinking that I'll be working as permanent staff after 3 months probation but apparently there's a slight "mistake" in the advertisement and now it's a contract job. Wasted my time seriously!

Is it true that if we accept a lower-than-market pay as 1st salary, it's gonna be hard to ask for a higher one later when we move to another company? Will we be gaslighted for asking more, since we started low? I'm a fresh grad with an offer on my hand atm. Bcz my GPA is not that powerful, this offer came after almost 10 months of looking for jobs so I'm really grateful. But salary is only SGD 2.7k since it's a small company. I believe my concern above is valid. Can I negotiate or just say yes?

Is it common to get ignored and excluded from team's meeting when you've already tendered your resignation? I didn't do this willingly but I was forced to submit it after a project failed and my boss put the blame entirely on me. I thought if I resigned, everybody will be happy and not treat me like a stranger. After all, I was thrown under the bus for them! All I'm asking is just a friendship that would last even after I don't work here anymore. Is it too much to ask? Why are they so mean??

Dear fresh grads, don't be too quick to give up. Exhibit A: me! 🤗It’s only been a year at my current job, but I'm glad I choose to persevere. Sure, management can be unpredictable, and the pace can be intense, but I’ve learned to adapt and see challenges as opportunities. All thanks to my boss & colleagues who are very passionate in their jobs & have the highest patience when teaching me things I don't know about. I may still make mistakes, but at least I'm not alone in this journey 😌

Feeling conflicted and need advice urgently! I received a job offer with a slight salary increase. It’s an improvement, but after being underpaid for so long, I'm hoping for at least 20% increment. But the hiring manager was very firm that the pay is final. No flexibility at all. Now I’m debating whether mentioning a “competing offer” (that doesn’t exist) could help or is it going seriously backfire. Can HR ask for proof? Will they know? And what’s the worst that could happen if they do??
