Can somebody share with me how to get $10k/month salary? I used to think $5k salary is enough to live comfortably in SG but nowadays I feel like $10k should be the norm. Looking at how slow my salary hike has been for the past few years, I think it's about time that I start to aggressively find ways to increase it. I understand job hopping could potentially get me there but how often can I hop in a year? Also, is asking 20% increment each move, is considered a lot or reasonable? Thanks!

Why do companies refuse to pay more, even within budget?? My team is hiring and we had a superb candidate with strong profile, great interview and boss loved him. But last minute, things didn't work out bcz he asked for a higher salary than offered, even though his request is still within our budget. Boss said it’s better to hire below budget because using the full amount is “harder to justify” to higher management. IDK if it’s a boss issue or company culture but I need to rethink staying here.

Can I be honest? I don't like CNY. Not because I don't enjoy it but I hate meeting the relatives. Ever since I graduated, our conversation has been centered around work & salary. Even marriage is out of the question bcz my salary is below $5k, unlike my cousins. Every year I get an earful about changing to a better job with higher pay. As if I've never tried before?? Can you tell me what other reasons can I give them besides "it's not my luck yet" because to them, that's an excuse not efforts.

Got an offer. Not happy with the salary. So I asked for an increment within the advertised range but was told it’s “too high.” When I asked why, they said my current pay is low, so asking for a 60% boost is “unreasonable" and they can only base it on what I earn right now. That really confused me. If the role is budgeted at a certain range, shouldn’t the pay be based on the job value and my skills, not my past salary? Is this why they always ask to see our payslip first so they can lowball us?

I just wondered if job ads could streamline between more interest of recruiting fresh grads, to grads, to matured candidates? It seems like besides the auto of ads 3 times before the ad expired on Jobstreet, we won't knw where we stand a chance in employment. I know roles like safety managers usually considered a lot of people with experience. Maybe places that look into cost saving, could clearly state " fresh grads r encouraged or welcomed" as indication matured candidates can skip applying.

I just started at this new company about 2 months ago. I've never taken any MC/AL because I'm still under probation. But this week, I had a terrible stomach ache on Monday morning. Went to the loo countless times so I texted my boss telling her that I'm going to get an MC. Surprisingly, she got super angry and she said NOBODY should take MC on Monday. It's just an unspoken rule in the working world. Question: Is it true? Second, should I resign before I got confirmed next month?

A - immediately B - after 10 mins C- after 30 mins D - after 1-2 hours Whatever your answer is, tell me your reasons below because I wanna know why! I am into a One Year Contract job for almost 3 months. Not really on talking terms with my immediate team. At work, I try my best but feel being an outcast. Didn't join small, casual chat.I don't care that much also as we go have no contacts after work. There's a saying " Your Colleagues are Not Yr Friends. They are just doing the same job for money". Anyway, I ask immediate manager for transfer. Pending outcome.

Those who got retrenched, how do you bounce back? Need some supportive words from you guys. 🙏 Since I got laid off last year, it's been so challenging getting back on my feet. Can't help but to compare myself with my peers who are enjoying life with families, owning properties, buying cars, travelling overseas while me struggling to secure a new job at 37 years old. Never once I imagine myself would be in this situation so it's been very hard for me to navigate. Pray for my mental health TQ
