Want to be an Aesthetician in Singapore Here are 3 Things To Note

Aestheticians in Singapore are a vital part of the beauty industry. Also called skincare therapists, they are licensed to specialise in specific cosmetic skin treatments. These include skin peels, exfoliation, skin mapping, facials, and hair removal.

According to Amanda Lim, editor of CosmeticsDesign-Asia, the pandemic nudged a rekindled interest in skincare products. This inevitably leads to clients heading back to spas, salons, and dermatologists' clinics for skincare treatments. Aestheticians will have their work cut out for them.

Are you interested in a career as an aesthetician? Here are some facts you need to know.

Aestheticians in Singapore make $37,196 (SGD) annually on average

Like in any other industry, compensation for aestheticians in Singapore is based on experience. For fresh graduates, entry-level pay is $28,450 yearly. A senior-level salary, on the other hand, can go upwards of $44,632 yearly. Hourly, aestheticians are paid $17.88 on average. They receive an average of $4,207 as a bonus every year.

Companies on JobStreet looking to hire aestheticians follow the industry range for compensation. Astute Medical Clinic, for example, is looking to pay their aesthetic clinic specialists $3,500 to $4,500 monthly.

Based on compensation data collected by Salary Expert, an aesthetician's salary can have an 11 percent increase in five years. Therefore, an aesthetician making today's average salary may look forward to making up to $41,309 in 2026.

A high school diploma is enough

Fifty-six percent of aestheticians in Singapore today are high school graduates. The 23 percent who go on to complete a bachelor's degree usually take up cosmetology or take vocational courses in cosmetology training. A further 3 percent are master's degree holders.

You will have to hone your skills through specific training courses

There are no dedicated university or even vocational courses in Singapore for aestheticians. This means you will have to learn your trade by taking certificate courses that will be relevant to your career.

For instance, Coursemologyprovides training courses in various subjects relevant to your career, such as massages and facial treatments.

CIBTAC Centres Singapore, on the other hand, comprises several institutions for beauty industry training. You can try Aesthetics International Academy, the one-stop institution for education in esthetics. There are also ProTherapist Academy for massage courses and Waxxxx Academy for training in waxing.

Finally, there is Singapore Spa Institute, where there is a seven-day certificate course in spa services, among other courses.
