What's it like to be an Audit Associate?
Audit Associates assist Lead Auditors in conducting an audit, which involves examining financial information such as expenses, inventory, and payroll. They typically work in an accounting firm and must have a strong accounting background. They work under the supervision of a Senior Internal or External Auditor, doing a variety of tasks such as scanning documents and analysing financial statements.
Tasks and duties
- Assisting the Senior Auditor in planning and conducting an audit.
- Preparing financial statements.
- Examining documents in compliance with the Singapore Standards on Auditing, the Singapore Companies Act, and the Singapore Financial Reporting Standards.
- Reviewing and verifying information in audit reports.
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients.
- Performing any other ad hoc duties as required.
How to become an Audit Associate
To become an Audit Associate, you need a bachelor degree in accountancy or an equivalent field.

Graduate with a bachelor degree in accountancy or an equivalent course. ACCA or CA qualification is advantageous. Certified public accountants (CPA), certified management accountants (CMA), and certified fraud examiners (CFE) are preferred.

Become proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

Gain at least one to three years’ worth of experience in an accountancy role.
- 4.
After gaining experience as an Audit Associate, consider progressing to a role such as a Senior or Chief Auditor. You may also look into project management roles such as Auditing Manager.
