Bank Tellers serve as a point of first contact for customers in banks and have responsibility for handling a range of banking transactions. Tasks and duties
- Handling cash transactions for bank customers, including deposits, withdrawals and transfers.
- Managing routine account transactions and services such as opening new accounts, selling bank products and services.
- Providing exceptional customer service, answering customers' questions and solving problems related to their bank accounts.
- Verifying identity of customers and authorising transactions, ensuring security and preventing fraud.
- Counting and balancing cash in the drawer at the start and close of each shift.
- Complying with all bank operational and security policies and procedures to protect customers and bank assets.
- Referring customers to other services such as loans, investments or insurance.
How to become a Bank Teller
A bank teller can be a stepping stone to a banking career. You can start with GCE O-Levels cert, but you may need a diploma or bachelor’s degree to advance in this profession.
- 1.GCE O-Levels and an aptitude for numbers and communication are necessary to become a Bank Teller.
- 2.Gain relevant experience by joining internships and undertaking on-the-job training. Most banks will have in-house onboarding programmes.
- 3.Some banks may require their employees to complete basic banking or money-handling certifications.
- 4.Consider taking a degree or diploma in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or the equivalent to advance to Lead Teller or Branch Manager.
