What's it like to be a Designer?
Designers typically work with design software to create designs for physical or digital products, such as vehicles, equipment, logos and websites. They can work as in-house Designers in creative teams, or independently as freelancers. Designers can work in a variety of roles, such as animation designers, architectural designers, fashion designers, graphic designers, interior designers, product designers and UX (user experience) designers.
Tasks and duties
- Planning designs through research.
- Creating designs using computer software and sketches.
- Pitching concepts and ideas to clients and team members.
- Following a client brief for a design.
- Coordinating with colleagues, clients and stakeholders for feedback and the approval of designs.
How to become a Designer
To work as a Designer, formal education is required. You usually need a degree in a relevant field.

Complete a bachelor degree in a relevant field such as digital/multimedia design, graphic design or visual communication.

Develop your skills in commonly used software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Google Web Designer and Spark AR.

Gain workplace experience in your chosen field of design and build a portfolio to show future employers. You could start off by undertaking an internship while you study.
