This job often involves problem-solving, risk management and coordinating with other IT personnel. Infrastructure Managers typically work in industries where IT plays a significant role, such as the financial sector, technology companies, large-scale retail businesses and public services.

- Overseeing the operational management of IT infrastructure, platforms and services within an organisation.
- Designing, testing and implementing new IT systems and technologies to meet the business needs.
- Ensuring high levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
- Plan, organise and direct the operational tasks of the data centre and network providers.
- Managing and setting priorities for the maintenance and development of systems and infrastructure.
- Providing infrastructure services vision, enabling innovation and understanding IT industry trends.
- Collaborating with relevant departments to ensure system consistency and improve user experience.
How to become an Infrastructure Manager
An Infrastructure Manager starts with a bachelor’s degree in a computing-related field, such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology. Apart from technical skills, you also need leadership and project management experience.
- 1.Complete a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or the equivalent degree. Some employers may prefer candidates with a master’s degree in the same field.
- 2.Gather at least five years of experience to understand IT infrastructure management, cybersecurity, or disaster recovery. Start with more junior roles, such as IT Support Technician or Help Desk Analyst.
- 3.Obtain relevant certifications to enhance your qualifications. Consider becoming a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
- 4.Join professional associations like the Singapore Computer Society (SCS) or the Association of Information Security Professionals (AiSP) to stay updated on industry developments.
- 5.Consider further education to boost your chances of more senior roles.
