Legal Managers guide and oversee the legal aspects of a business, ensuring that the organisation operates within the scope of law. They handle legal issues from contract negotiation, employment laws, intellectual property rights to corporate governance. They're also responsible for drafting and revising legal documentation, providing legal advice and reducing potential legal risks. Legal Managers often work in corporations, law firms or governmental organisations.

- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing legal agreements, contracts and policy documents.
- Fostering relationships with outside legal representatives and agencies.

- Ensuring an organisation's legal compliance in all aspects and reduce chances of legal risk.
- Providing legal training to company staff to enhance their awareness of legal implications in their roles.
How to become a Legal Manager
To excel as a Legal Manager, continuous education, practical experience, specialisation in relevant areas, and passing the bar exam are essential.
- 1.Obtain a law degree and pass the Singapore Bar exam.
- 2.Accumulate relevant experience in legal departments, law firms, or corporate environments. Typically, up to 5 years of experience in roles like contract drafting, legal research, and client interaction is needed to progress to a managerial position.
- 3.Specialise in areas such as corporate law, contract management, intellectual property, or regulatory compliance, attending workshops, seminars, or pursuing certifications to enhance expertise.
- 4.While a bachelor's degree in law is standard, becoming a Legal Manager usually requires several years of post-qualification experience. Additional qualifications like an LLM or MBA may be preferred by some organisations.
- 5.Master essential skills like communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning to effectively convey complex legal concepts, negotiate agreements, and analyse legal risks as a Legal Manager.
- 6.Effective leadership and team management are essential for this role.
