What's it like to be a Shipping Executive?
As a Shipping Executive, you'll be responsible for managing and coordinating experts within the shipping industry. Daily tasks often include overseeing the loading and offloading of goods, managing shipment schedules, coordinating with customs and port authorities, and ensuring all operations comply with safety regulations. Shipping Executives collaborate with various parties, such as cargo owners, shipbrokers and insurance agents. They primarily work within shipping companies, logistics service providers and maritime trade organisations.
Tasks and duties
- Overseeing shipping operations, including organising schedules and coordinating with other departments.
- Negotiating and finalising contracts with shipping companies and service providers.
- Managing and maintaining an inventory of shipping supplies and handling necessary documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies as well as shipping and importing laws and regulations.
- Analysing existing shipping protocols and expenses, and suggesting improvements.
- Coordinating with import and export teams to provide accurate documentation and timely goods delivery.
- Handling any issues, delays or problems encountered during shipping and finding resolutions promptly.
