What's it like to be a Storekeeper?
Storekeepers manage store operations, ensuring inventory safety and security. They closely monitor inventory levels and transactions to maintain adequate stock levels, avoiding overstocking or stock shortages. Storekeepers may also receive, handle and pack goods. Working as a Storekeeper may require a level of physical fitness, as the role requires lifting and coordination.
Tasks and duties
- Maintaining inventory levels and ensuring stock is organised and easily accessible.
- Receiving new shipments of products and checking them for accuracy and quality.
- Recording all inventory transactions, including deliveries, returns, and adjustments.
- Conducting regular stock checks and reconciling any discrepancies.
- Keeping the store clean and tidy, including organising displays and removing clutter.
- Delivering customer service and assisting customers with their purchases.
- Processing sales transactions and handling cash and card payments.
- Maintaining accurate records of all sales and transactions.
- Collaborating with other team members to ensure the smooth running of the store.
How to become a Storekeeper
There is no mandatory qualification to work as a Storekeeper, however, some employers may prefer candidates with an O-level certification or NITEC from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
