What's it like to be a Writer?
A Writer is a flexible creative that can work as an independent book writer, copy or content writer for brands, agencies, or media organisations, or as an academic in a field of interest. As a Writer, you must be articulate and have excellent command of the language you are expected to write in. You must also be able to stick to deadlines and research your subject matter extensively.
Tasks and duties
- Researching subjects, events or people prior to writing.
- Writing for publications, websites, scripts and TV among other platforms.
- Including key words and phrases for web writing.
- Using tools such as a dictionary, thesaurus or SEO keyword search that assist with the writing process.
- Ensuring that copy or content is free of errors before submission.
- Aligning writing to a client’s brief.
- Addressing revisions in a timely manner.
How to become a Writer
While there is no specific qualification to become a Writer, pursuing studies in related fields such as communications, journalism, literature, media or creative writing can give you an advantage.
