As an ex DSTA staff, i tried ways to return back there. I was being rejected a few times. Recently i gotten an offer as a project admin under EDS dept. It was under agency's contract though. But due to some reasons, i couldnt accept the offer. Days later i went to check with my agent to see if they can reconsider me again, cos i regretted my decision for rejecting the job. They never bother to take into the account of how long I have worked there before...
The good thingsNo good things at the present. The old management were much better as more work life balance. They do not care much about whether you are graduated from private or local. Now they only welcoming local degree holders.
The challengesFor the past 11 years there, i worked as a junior level role.

    Didn't like my time here.
The good thingsGood salary for fresh graduate, pays better than in private sectors.
The challenges1. Workload and stress levels are high, with long approval processes & a lot of red tapes. A lot of time and energy is needed to complete mundane tasks. 2. Competitive and political work environment. Difficult to get support from colleagues at times. 3. Organisational structure is top heavy.

    Career Advancements?!
The good thingsGood for graduates with engineering background, especially good overseas degrees are much valued. Even graduates with zero job experiences are paid well! If you are in your bosses' good books, you could do no wrong, and will get promoted fairly fast. Also good for people who know how to sell / promote themselves well, not necessarily know how to do works.
The challengesGovernment asking for a shift of mindset that not all jobs needs degree holders but majority of the SBs with the current management is not changing their mindsets. Especially difficult for outspoken personnel if they don't like you, then you will forever lack the 'tiny' bit for career advancements. Transparency is 'so-called encouraged' but lacking in practice.

    Good place for young engineers
The good thingsAllows young engineers to take up big challenges in managing customers and contractors. Good learning environment for procurement approach of Singapore government.
The challengesNot much technical work, though it is advertised as so. Lots of processes and red tape in daily work.
