Heavy workload & no worklife balance
The good thingsColleagues are really good, enjoyed suffering together. Enjoy sales & staff discount together. One of the DM was fun & understanding also.
The challengesFor a company that preached about worklife balance & no hierarchy feedbacks, There's alot of not in your face kind of feedbacks made by management teams. Even on my off day im expected to respond to work related matter. The shifts are also long and tiring loaded with heavy workload that does not match the pay. Very little headcount daily also, Less hours, High expectations for staffs to complete 3x workload + Maintain customer service. Jem Store Manager also Micromanaged too much on staff & there's only one good DM who actually cared for the staff.

Happy working with store team but not with SO team
The good thingsWith meeting up good colleagues that we develop over years. Experience in MNCs and take ownership of the department. Able to develop your staffs.
The challengesHave very less progression opportunity and increment when you become a manager. Sugar coated promises from SO team. Have development plan but zero follow up, esp when you transfer between stores, then will just blame the ex store never communicate with them, hence this is the issue that you have to accept. Push the blames around when problem happened or don’t see it as a problem for them and throw it back to store operation team. Don’t preach about values that they “live” by with but want the store team to practice values on daily basis. Expect you to think out of the box but within the guideline and standards which is back to square one. No budget for store but ample budgets for SO team for summer party.

    Working culture is great
The good thingsH&M has a very welcoming culture. Although it is fast-paced, with great communication among managers and colleagues, we managed to get through the worst days. The store management team is also very understanding in terms of balancing work-life culture. Staffs do try to train newcomers for about 2 weeks. Overall, there is great teamwork.
The challengesIt does get really hectic during sales period which can be especially tiring when faced with staff shortages. Besides that, there isn't much staff benefits compared to oter retail outlets. It's not bad but could be better.

    Interesting

The challengesI couldnt commit to the long hours like from 7am - 5pm it was very exhausting. I think maybe there should be flexible hours for students.

    Absolutely fun!!!
The good thingsThe fun environment, thanks to the friendly people! Everyone can basically make friends with anyone. Even the managers and employees may interact freely with almost no barriers!
The challengesLong working hours (but that's normal for retail line), but may get really hectic, and hours may be extended during sale periods.
