The good thingsGood work-life balance and the people at the organisation are nice to work with. Opportunities are abound if one is willing to go the distance as well.
The challengesAs with most cost centres, actions taken require justification and rationalisation.

    good experience
The good thingsthe supervisors and other temporary officers are very helpful & friendly. i had a load of fun there & i also learned a lot of new things that will help me in the future. while handling taxpayers can be challenging, i sure made a bunch of new good friends that i am still in touch with.
The challengeshandling difficult taxpayers, or if they are in a difficult situation that even the supervisors never heard of, but you still need to handle the call.

A wonderful journey with experienced permanent staffs who will make you feel like it's a second home.
The good thingsDefinitely, a place where you can get the best experience if you have not worked before. Your colleagues are your supervisors and I believe the friendship will extend opportunities to explore your goals or the next step in life. Working with well experienced staff is when you learn more and you get to move forward with a focused mind.
The challengesDealing with difficult customers on the line wasn't as easy as I thought, but with the help of our supervisors we could overcome our fear and be confident with the right things to say. I learned that you should be very focused on work so that you will be able to finish the task smoothly.

Best job I ever had among my 12 years with 4 different companies.
The good thingsColleagues are helpful, great teamwork. Good benefits, like free fruit a week, extra 1 hr break if you exercise during lunch time. Staff training is good, staffs can cover each other work if any emergency or holiday because it is already well trained during normal days.
The challengesThe things here are less likely to be applicable to private companies. If you are fresh grads and want to learn more, it is best to try private companies. This is more suitable for people close to retirement. You have to be active in non-work related activities too, example welfare committee, performance for special day, although not everyone needs to do but they are likely to arrow new staff.

    Amazing culture, caring superiors.
The good thingsI did an internship with IRAS. The culture here is very 'family'-like, and my superiors were very caring and helpful. Their training programme is topnotch, and although there was a lot of material to cover, we managed to learn it all in time. All in all, amazing coworkers and superiors made the job a pleasure. During the internship, I learnt alot, and also benefitted from being able to work on a project of my choosing. This allowed me to get more insight into the processes of the organisation. The organisation itself regularly gathers feedback from its staff and acts on them. Finally, a side note that there were many perks for staff - although I did not use most of them.
The challengesThe call volume can be rather crazy, especially during peak period. Especially since the call centre is usually understaffed for the peak call volume.
