I manage new trains projects delivered to existing MRT lines and I also support MRT operators in their Operation & Maintenance.
The good thingsLTA is handling a lot mega projects such as building new MRT lines and delivering newer trains to existing systems. In addition, such projects always require for proper programme planning and strong coordination among various contractors and other state holders. Hence the employees could have chances to participate in various projects and to develop their skills in project management and coordination.
The challengesTight Schedule: The programme planning for projects is always too ideal and optimistic that there is less buffer for any delay or change of work order. Lengthy procedures: Too many layers of approval to seek for in order to get the green light to proceed. Multiple stake holders to deal with: As the projects usually involve many parties, it is challenging to drive all parties to work toward the same goal while they are having their own interest to concern about.

    Nice people, terrible approval process
The good thingsGood work-life balance. However, methods of doing things are antiquated and frustratingly slow, with many layers of approval.
The challengesApprovals take ages, and it often takes longer to get approval for works than to execute the works themselves.

Good place for Civil engineers willing to work hard
The good thingsGood mentorship and leadership. Good Opportunities to expand your learning in depth and breadth, if you are really willing to go the extra mile.
The challengesWorking together with older staff may be a challenge. While some are proactive, some may not be willing to support. A common problem like anywhere else.

    Dynamic and challenging work
The good thingsInteresting place to work with the opportunity to come into contact with individuals from a wide variety of specializations. This experience is excellent for an individual looking to have a feel for working in a large, multicultural organization.
The challengesWork can feel like one is working in a silo but this effect can be mitigated by having an open conversations with ones line manager to moderate exposure and workload. At times, upper management can be quite political and decisions seemingly made arbitrarily.

The good thingsMy reporting officer was very frank and open with me about what was required of me and gave me constant feedback about my performance. I am constantly challenged which is a good thing.

    BEST INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE
The good thingsEveryone in the company was really warm and welcoming. They were very patient with the many questions I have when I am unsure of the things I do not know or have yet to learn on site. It is a very professional working environment because when it is time to work everyone works. People are also very generous and kind especially during break time because everyone will be gathering together in the pantry.
The challengesChallenges I think would be if you have lack of experience, then you might need to ask a lot of questions, but hey, everyone starts somewhere. Also if you are looking for a great position I think it is important to have a higher form of education such as a degree or masters because I believe a government company is really looking for the best for the nation.
