The challengesIrregular working hours.Management cares only about KPI. Dwindling experience and technical pool.

The good thingsThroughout my career, I had equipped with strong leadership skills through supervising and leading many transport operators to provide transport services for the Army and the Republic of Singapore Air Force. Besides leading the transport operators to perform their tasks, I also enforced high standards in training, discipline, operations, administration, and safety. I also given the opportunity to helped units to achieve excellence in their logistic, administration, finance and safety processes during audits and inspections. I had involved in logistics and transportation for several SAF and National Events such as NDP, SAF Day, SAF Open House, Asia Security Summit Shangri-La Dialogue, RSAF Open House, and Forward Support Group for overseas exercise. I am alway ready to operate in a dynamic,fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

    Enriching and eye opening
The good thingsThe good thing about working with the army was the flexibility in performing my day to day duties and being able to make a positive impact on the lives of those working under my purview. My superiors were understanding and groomed me well to present myself confidently and tackle problems in a calm and composed manner.
The challengesThe similarity in the various appointments as I progressed up the ladder in the industry made me realise that I needed a new challenge in life. I felt that there was nothing I was incapable of achieving in the army and I was bidding time till a better opportunity came along. Regardless, Army tended to give opportunities to senior personnel by age rather than merit, which in turn did not help me in fulfulling my maximum potential.

    Great Career for SAF Officers
The good thingsExposure to multiple tasking and other jobs not included in job scope. Ample guidance from colleague.
The challengesJob scope given by recruitment ads is not accurate. Many other tasks included which sometimes can be more than primary tasks or what you signed up for. Compulsory rotation shifts and weekend work when needed. Slow salary increment and low job satisfaction. Low appreciated job.

    Challenging but rewarding
The good thingsPlently of opportunity to be expose to various functions, events and operations. Management are welcoming with innovation and creativity to help streamline processes while being governance by policies and directives.
The challengesMINDEF/SAF is a very dyanmic, fast paced organisation that required quick thinking and judgment call. People who work in MINDEF/SAF are usually fast-witted, independent worker as well as a team player.

If you like being in a template, this is it.
The good thingsFree food. It is also stress-free if you are willing to just remain status quo and like being lazy. Regimentation and rank makes work life easy because you can just pull your rank and your job is done for you. Easy.
The challengesThis organization could take change more positively. While it is important to follow standard protocol, doing thing because \"they have always been done this way\" just doesn't work anyway. Maybe it's because of the endless supply of manpower and resources that personnel become complacent.

Poor work life balance for certian departments.
The good thingsGood staff benefits, attractive retention bonus, and overall good annual pay package.
The challengesLong and tedious recruitment process. Long working hours for some departments, inconvenient location, poorly defined job scope and performance grading criteria, management unwilling to make changes or challenge the current process. Career progression limited as management level are mainly scholars.

Working amongst great people with a meaningful purpose
The good thingsEveryone is constantly improving how we can contribute to the defence of Singapore better. For example, research is always undertaken to better improve our processes. This instills a sense of proactiveness among the people, as well a desire to improve. For security purposes I am not able to reveal any more information.
The challengesJob prospects. It is very difficult to proceed to the higher echelons. The work is mundane if you do it long term.
