A suitable work environment for semi-retirement and new to the working world
The good thingsFriendly staff and colleagues, generous work-balance life, long lunch hours, flexible working hours, staff fund benefits to study and upgrade, open-minded to new ideas, many art pieces and exhibitions to enjoy!
The challengesAverage salary, promotion opportunity if one knows the right people or know how to sell oneself or mingle adequately, unnecessary meetings at times and last minute, some divisions/individuals seems to be working in silo, there are more talkers than doers.

The good thingsI enjoy the curators' explanation of the artworks & seek to emulate the experience to visitors as a gallery host
The challengesI don't think lunch breaks ought to be dictated by management & toilet breaks need to be secure by walkie. Also need to work on public holidays and leave is not readily approved

Wasted Potential and a Huge Disappointment
The good thingsMany opportunities to engage visitors and cultural proponents are helpful for the overall development of the institution. Working level staff have good synergy with each other - people who have left (see challenges) constantly keep in touch and work on independent projects together.
The challengesLeadership is myopic with scatter-shot short-term pursuits which is not healthy for the institution in the long run. Current direction is leaning towards REIT instead of a cultural experience (for a cultural institution). Senior management is lacklustre, obviously self-centred, and unwilling to stand steadfast in pursuing long term goals of cultural development over short term gains. All these culminating in the exodus of passionate and talented arts people leaving within a year or less.
