    Store Manager
    May 2018
1 to 2 years in the role, former employee
    Good brand, weak management
The good thingsStrong brand and good customer base. Basically 50 years of history shows good track record when it comes to merchandise but company have been on the decline for the past few years and it has affected the company in many ways like layoffs, merchandise insufficiency and lack of support. The layoffs lead to job consolidation and Malaysia, Singapore and Australia share the same management and that itself have brought many issues as currently the Australia side cannot cope with handling this capacity and it is proven from the drop in performance especially in Malaysia.
The challengesUnable to make changes as it is out of our control when it comes to key factors such as merchandise. The store is not setup to generate the amount of target set and this in return have caused employees to not be paid commissions. Since there is no office in Malaysia, you will be having difficulties getting a lot done as until today the company is still having issues between the regional roles played by each country. You will find that for merchandise issues you will have to liaise with Australia but the warehouse is in HK and most of the time you will be wasting a lot of precious time due to this \"middle person\" that holds very little authority and it will cost you since you will not be a priority compared to the countries that deal directly with HK. You will be pressured as the only thing that is in your area of control is your own team. Managers will find raising issues regarding merchandise very difficult as the top management have a tendency to generalize it by claiming other stores in other countries are also facing it and yet they are performing. Should you be able to accept the above points, top management behaviors and you yourself do not have much opinions, then you may have a decent career in this company even if your performance suffers a little. If you are outspoken and have demands to ensure a store is setup to achieve a realistic target, you may find yourself frustrated and should seriously consider seeking employment elsewhere.
