Good career head start with high stability but requires endurance, patience and passion.
The good thingsThe journey has been a rewarding and meaningful as it offers a very strong sense of purpose. The work directly contributes to national security and the protection of airspace while also knowing that your love ones are safe and sound. The training provided is structured and comprehensive, allowing personnel to build solid technical knowledge, operational discipline, and critical decision-making skills. Leadership capabilities are also well honed through courses available and mentorship. Teamwork, accountability, and professionalism are always the main emphasis through exercises and trainings. Collaboration across units helps develop strong communication skills and a clear understanding of how individual roles fit into larger operational objectives. There are also opportunities for continuous learning through courses and exercises, which helps keep skills relevant and up to date. It is also a very solid career option for a start which offers stability.
The challengesThis career can be demanding, with irregular hours and high expectations, especially during exercises or operational readiness periods. Do not expect to be paid overtime and in fact be ready to work over the weekends or even through the holidays. The pace and tempo of the work can be high and the responsibility may not suit everyone. Maintaining work-life balance can sometimes be challenging and the structured nature of the job may not suit everyone. A strong level of discipline and adaptability is definitely required. The responsibility involved can be high, as decisions often need to be made accurately and promptly under pressure. Physical and especially mental endurance are also important. Roles and appointments can also defer largely from technical work, operations, training and even logistics. Individuals might be thrown into undesired or uninterested roles which can lead to low motivation at work.

I gained a great experience and learned a lot of technical skills.
The good thingsGreat working environment with kind staff helped me a lot to perform my duties efficiently. A huge industrial chilled water plant helped me to boost my knowledge and skills. I learnt so many troubleshooting and maintenance skills there and managerial skills as well.
The challengesYou have to be punctual and hard worker to work in such a huge engineering environment. Specially when you have a pressure on you from top management to perform your duties under tight deadlines and strict working schedule.

Had my fun colleagues and superiors to work with.
The good thingsGood e-spirit de corp within the department and among the units. Have learnt a lot from my seniors who were truly caring and willing to share knowledge during my tour of duty in the RSAF. Had great fun with them too during our weekly health runs/ walks.
The challengesAs majority of the staffs are men, as a lady I have to get used to their working styles and \"manly languages\" at times. But they are harmless. Other than that, all are great! Discipline is a must.

    Good training and benefits
The good thingsI was in the Manpower Policy Department and then-MINDEF Public Affairs (now called MINDEF Communications Organisation). My superiors provided me a lot of guidance and gave me opportunities to develop my project management skills and hone my writing skills. The welfare and benefits provided by MINDEF were very substantial and they encompasses all the needs that an employee would need.
The challengesI understand the security concerns involved but I would prefer if employees can be allowed to bring their camera smartphones to most establishments under MINDEF and SAF.
