Balanced assessment of actual working environment
The good thingsThe firm attempts to foster good company culture. Depending on your line manager good practices might be implemented. Some autonomy in employee contribution to projects and how business is run. Good benefits if one stays long enough. Internal rotation opportunities offers decent roles but limited in scope. Great place for starters.
The challengesAggressive cutting costs and restructuring even when the business is doing well means there is not much job stability. Job roles seldom offer chance of progression. Poor remuneration for high expectation of commitment: Not much of a bonus. Firm strives to maintain a noble company culture, it is seldom put into practice on a team level. Despite corporate communication about how employees are their most important asset, the actual vibe on the ground is hardly so.

    Challenging and Rewarding Company
The good thingsPrior to the financial crisis, the benefits are good. Good IT governance and advance systems application. Good training ground for those starting in banking IT.

    Experience at UBS
The good thingsWell defined policies and easy to understand. Proper process is followed, be it access review or issue handling. Audits are carried out regularly with full diligence. Company thinks about the employees and keeps ticking with in between gifts. Various learning programs and events organized. Good benefits apart from pay i.e. medical and discounted plans.
The challengesThe appraisal process relies on peers and managers. Hence focus happens on the few consumers. The senior management's path/plans are at times disconnected from what happens at ground level. Many times focus is on putting up a rosy picture although it's not reality. Proper knowledge distribution isn't adhered to and team either runs on few knowledgeable resources only. Reduced work-life balance
