Early Intervention Educator (Preschool)
Summary
We are seeking a reflective and collaborative Early Intervention Educator to join our preschool team. In this role, you will support young children with developmental needs and help them thrive through an inclusive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate mainstream preschool learning environment.
This role focuses on embedding intervention strategies in to daily classroom routines, working alongside early childhood educators to co-create and strengthen inclusive practices, supporting children with developmental needs to participate meaningfully in the preschool curriculum.
The Early Intervention Educator will operate within a multi-disciplinary framework and partners closely with educators, families, and allied professionals to enhance child and classroom outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Child-Level Intervention and Support
Conduct functional observations and assessments to identify and monitor, each child’s strengths, needs, and participation barriers using appropriate assessment tools, and document their progress through a variety of data collection methods
Collaborate closely with early childhood educators, therapists, and families to develop and implement Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) for children aged 3 to 6.
Plan, prepare, and deliver age-appropriate lessons and activities tailored to children’s developmental needs and learning profiles.
Embed intervention strategies into daily school routines to promote the development of communication, cognitive, motor, and social skills.
Deliver small group and individual sessions where required to support communication, social-emotional, cognitive, adaptive, and motor development
2. Classroom Inclusion and Curriculum Adaptation
Collaborate with early childhood educators to adapt lesson plans, materials, and the learning environment to support diverse learners.
Apply universal design foe learning (UDL) and differentiated instruction strategies.
Support positive behavior guidance through proactive classroom management strategies
Support centre initiatives that strengthen inclusive culture and systems
3. Educator Coaching and Capacity Building
Engage in collaborative teaming with preschool educators through co-teaching, modeling and reflective discussion
Share evidence-informed intervention strategies and practical classroom adaptations (e.g., environmental modifications, visual supports, assistive tools, structured teaching)
Support educators in understanding child development, functional needs, and inclusive practices.
Contribute to professional sessions related to inclusion and supporting children with diverse needs.
4. Family and Multi-disciplinary Collaboration
Partner with families to understand their priorities for coordinated goal setting and support carryover of strategies into home routines
Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings with educators, allied professionals and other professionals
5. Professional Practice and Programme Development
Contribute to data collection and programme evaluation
Uphold ethical standards, child safety, and confidentiality requirements.
Requirements
Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Intervention (Special Needs) – SDESN (required).
Prior experience working with young children aged three to six years old with developmental or learning needs.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
Demonstrated patience, empathy, and adaptability when supporting diverse learning needs.
Commitment to advocating and supporting the growth of inclusive early childhood practice
Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative team model (e.g., therapists, early childhood educators, learning support educators).
Knowledge of early childhood development frameworks and inclusive education practices is an advantage.
