Impersonating SEEK to request fake fees for overseas job offer processing

Summary: Scammers impersonate SEEK by sending fraudulent job offer emails for high-paying overseas roles. They request personal documents (such as resumes, passports, photos, qualifications, salary slips and experience certificates) and demand processing fees. Victims face monetary loss and identity theft risks, as scammers can misuse their personal details for malicious purposes.

Tactics used: Scammers use brand impersonation with fake SEEK-style email domains and include legitimate SEEK website links to appear authentic. They most likely leverage AI to create detailed, credible-sounding job offers that exploit job seekers’ eagerness for high paying job offers. Victims are defrauded through upfront payments for fake processing fees or requirements.

Top recommendations:

  1. Check for inconsistencies. Look for mismatches in contact details, locations and business operations. For example, a red flag in this example is that the contact numbers, bank accounts, and currency all point to India, but SEEK does not operate there. Similarly, if a scammer claims to represent SEEK Australia but offer a Singapore job and link to the SEEK Australia website – these inconsistencies reveal the fraud.

  2. Never pay fees. Be cautious of any message claiming to be from SEEK that requests payment to secure a job, attend an interview, or process application documents. SEEK never charges fees as part of a job application or hiring process.
