Accounting Supervisors monitor the job functions of the accounting department. They create and optimise workflow procedures, offer training and mentorship to accounting team members, and provide feedback about the accounting department to management. Leadership, industry experience, and organisation skills are essential for the position. Accounting Supervisors work in accounting firms and accounting departments across all industries.
Tasks and duties
- Reviewing, revising, and approving financial statements.
- Reconciling ledger accounts, tax statements, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Recruiting, training, and mentoring accounting team members.
- Overseeing payroll, monthly, and quarterly reports.
- Aligning employee output with fiscal deadlines and regulatory standards.
- Coordinating budgets with supervisors from other departments.
- Presenting reports and analyses to management.
How to become an Accounting Supervisor
Accounting Supervisors usually hold a bachelor degree and are Chartered Accountants. However, it is possible to reach the position during a training period under the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Association (ACRA) with demonstration of excellent performance and leadership skills.

Graduate with a bachelor degree in accounting, finance, business administration or another related degree.

Complete an internship in the finance department of a recognised company.
- 3.
Take the foundation programme administered by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Association (ACRA).
- 4.
Get an Assistant Accountant job at an ACRA Accredited Training Organisation (ATO).
- 5.
Gain 3 years of professional experience while completing the ACRA program modules.
- 6.
Register as a Chartered Accountant.
- 7.
Pursue promotion to higher positions such as Accounting Manager.
