What's it like to be a Building Manager?
A Building Manager is the point person for the affairs of shared buildings such as condominiums, office buildings, and industrial properties. They are in charge of overseeing the maintenance, protocols and security of all tenants and visitors, and manage the housekeeping, administrative, and other departments in a property.
Tasks and duties
- Posting memos, announcements, and updates for tenants’ information.
- Drafting building protocols, amending and updating as necessary.
- Evaluating the best course of action for tenant or staff concerns and incidents.
- Liaising with zoning, sanitation and safety authorities to meet quality standards.
- Inspecting building safety and ordering repairs and renovations.
- Facilitating standard procedure and evacuation of all tenants and staff in case of emergency.
- Attending property board meetings.
How to become a Building Manager
Skills in project management, leadership and communication are required for this role. Most Building Managers have at least a bachelor degree in engineering or management, as well as relevant supervisory experience.

Graduate with a bachelor degree in engineering, business administration, management, human resources, or another related field.
- 2.
Complete an internship related to people management and liaisons at a recognised company.
- 3.
Gain experience in leadership and coordination by taking projects in events organisation, project management or charity initiatives.
- 4.
Gain at least two years of work experience in a supervisory role.
- 5.
Consider taking postgraduate studies in property management or a similar field.
