What's it like to be a Care Coordinator?
Care Coordinators supervise a patient’s entire care plan and ensure their client has access to everything they may need. They may answer questions about their patient’s condition, help them find health care providers, and monitor their progress. A Care Coordinator’s work is considered vital in the medical treatment of patients, normally the elderly or disabled.
Tasks and duties
- Educating patients and their family members about the patient’s condition.
- Gathering a team of specialists to carry out the patient’s care and treatment.
- Developing and executing a care plan in coordination with specialists.
- Monitoring and documenting the patient’s progress.
- Staying updated on healthcare laws and medical organisations’ patient care guidelines.
How to become a Care Coordinator
Formal education is usually required to work as a Care Coordinator.
Earn a bachelor degree in communication, healthcare administration, nursing, or any related medical field.
Alternatively, receive a General Certificate of Education (GCE) N Level (Normal), O Level (Ordinary), or A Level (Advanced). Most companies require a National ITE Certificate (NiTEC).
Complete at least a year of experience working as an intern or entry-level administrative employee in a related field. Some companies may require at least two years of clinical experience.
Consider pursuing additional certifications in patient advocacy, IT, communications, and management.
