What's it like to be a Concierge?
Concierges serve the personal needs of guests or clients. They arrange and perform tasks such as making dinner reservations, creating itineraries for tours, booking transportation, receiving and sending parcels, booking spa or salon services, running errands, providing business support and shopping services. Concierges usually work in hotels, but they can also work in other settings like medical clinics. They typically have excellent communication and customer service skills, and are welcoming and approachable.
Tasks and duties
- Welcoming and seeing off guests.
- Managing luggage, mail, phone messages and other correspondence.
- Providing information on local attractions, events, travel and dining.
- Arranging transportation when requested.
- Arranging dinner reservations as well as other hotel services.
- Answering questions from guests about the hotel and local area.
- Addressing housekeeping and maintenance issues.
How to become a Concierge
To become a Concierge, experience in the hospitality industry is important. Formal education is not required although a degree in hospitality, tourism or hotel management may be an advantage.
