What's it like to be a Driving Instructor?
Driving Instructors teach basic and advanced driving courses to new drivers. They also assess the driving ability of their students and provide professional feedback to help improve their driving. Driving Instructors educate their students on road safety regulations as mandated by the Highway Code. They can be self-employed or employed by driving schools.
Tasks and duties
- Teaching students in classrooms and on the road.
- Assessing student driver performance and providing feedback for improvement.
- Structuring lessons for students based on their needs.
- Being a source of knowledge on navigation, road safety and basic vehicle maintenance.
How to become a Driving Instructor
To become a Driving Instructor, you need experience in driving for a number of years in Singapore. Depending on employer requirements, some may require the completion of a GCE 'N' level education.

Be at least 18 years of age.

Hold a valid class 3 Singaporean driving licence or better.
- 3.
Have proof of a good driving record for a number of years.
- 4.
Have eligible vehicle class restrictions depending on employer requirements. These restrictions can be motor vehicles such as a motorcycle, saloon or lorry.

Consider completing additional certifications to enhance your skills. Getting certified for road safety, basic vehicle maintenance or vehicle repair will increase your chances of getting hired.
