What's it like to be a Bus Driver?
Bus Drivers are vocational licence holders who are qualified to operate large vehicles in accordance with transportation standards and laws. They navigate bus routes and make stops at certain areas to pick up and drop off passengers.
Tasks and duties
- Complying with traffic and safety rules.
- Traversing an assigned bus route to pickup and drop-off of passengers.
- Conducting maintenance and repair for one’s assigned vehicle.
- Ensuring safety and convenience of passengers, assisting the elderly and disabled.
- Completing daily route on schedule and maintaining vehicle gas supply.
How to become a Bus Driver
Bus Drivers must have completed at least secondary education, and have a Bus Driver’s Vocational Licence. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, and be a permanent resident of Singapore or be a work permit holder.

Take driving lessons and obtain a Qualified Driving Licence.

Enrol and pass a Vocational Licence course for Bus Driving.

Register as a qualified Bus Driver on Singpass. There are various vehicle types that you can register as, including omnibus, excursion bus, school bus, and private hire bus.

Complete various pre-employment requirements, such as background check, medical exam, and work permit, before securing a job as a Bus Driver.
