An educational background in Engineering or Electrical Technology may give you a leg up in becoming an Electrical Supervisor. However, employers typically prefer candidates with significant field experience, particularly in supervisory roles.
- 1.Complete an Institute of Technical Education (ITE) or Polytechnic diploma in Electrical Maintenance, Electrical Technology, or a similar field.
- 2.Gather relevant experience that offers practical training. Start as an apprentice and advance to Electrician, Electrical Technician, or Junior Electrical Engineer.
- 3.Become a Licensed Electrical Worker. Each type of LEW requires a specific number of years of experience. You need between two to seven years of experience. You also need to pass written and practical exams. The Energy Market Authority also requires you to renew your license periodically.
- 4.Consider applying to more senior roles like Senior Electrical Supervisor or Electrical Manager.
