What's it like to be a Guard?
Guards maintain safety and security for companies. Depending on a company’s specific needs, they work in various locations, including residential buildings, businesses, hospitals, and warehouses or factories. They may also work for individuals as Personal Bodyguards. In addition to protecting the premises, they assist other employees whenever necessary. They immediately contact the authorities if they observe any suspicious activity that may risk the location's safety.
Tasks and duties

- Checking identification and credentials of individuals entering or exiting premises.
- Responding to emergencies and incidents.

How to become a Guard
To become a Guard, you should have completed secondary education and possess a security license from the Police Licencing and Regulatory Department of the Singapore Police Force. Before working as a Guard, you must undergo training and meet all requirements.

Complete secondary education.

Apply for a security licence through the PLRD of the Singapore Police Force. You will be required to take basic courses that cover patrol, incident response, and threat observation. Upon completion of all requirements, your ID will be released. The validity of the licence is five years.

Start your security career and learn from senior members what to expect on the job and the usual responses to situations.

Consider finishing higher education that may give you the opportunity for more senior roles, such as a Security Manager.

Renew your security licence every five years to ensure your certification and updated records.
