What's it like to be a Police Officer?
Police Officers are responsible for identifying criminal activities, enforcing laws and protecting the rights of citizens. Police Officers typically undergo extensive training to prepare them for a range of duties relating to public safety, such as dealing with violent behaviour and traffic violations. They often patrol assigned areas and work irregular hours.

- Patrolling an assigned area.
- Managing traffic and enforcing road rules.
- Maintaining crowd order during large public events.
- Searching for suspects and arresting lawbreakers.
- Supporting and advising victims of crime.
- Completing and filing documentation relating to incidents.
How to become a Police Officer
To become a Police Officer you need to undergo extensive training and assessments. A relevant qualification can boost your employability.
- 1.
Complete a minimum of secondary education. Police officers are required to have at least five GCE A-level credits.
- 2.
Consider completing a bachelor degree in criminology or public safety.
- 3.
Meet the physical requirements for entry and pass a background check, psychometric tests and clinical interview.
- 4.
Attend and pass a board interview with panellists from the police force.
- 5.
Complete residential training with the Singapore Police Force. Depending on your desired position, training lasts from six to nine months.
- 6.
Start work as a Frontline Officer in the post assigned to you upon completion of your training. You can enlist as a regular Police Officer after five years of experience to fulfil the National Service liability.
