What's it like to be a Process Technician?
A Process Technician typically works in a process or manufacturing environment, collaborating with industrial engineers to design and implement improvements for operational efficiency. They may work in a variety of fields, from chemical and mechanical engineering, to energy and mining. In some roles, a Process Technician may operate the machinery used in a process or manufacturing environment.
Tasks and duties
- Operating equipment used for manufacturing and processing resources.
- Performing maintenance and repair work on machines.
- Troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Ensuring compliance with cleanliness, safety and quality standards.
- Evaluating process workflows and schedules.
- Recommending ways to improve operational efficiency, reduce production costs and increase yield.
How to become a Process Technician
To work as a Process Technician, formal education is usually required.

Graduate with a diploma, NITEC, Higher NITEC or NTC in engineering, chemical process technology or a related field.
- 2.
Knowledge or mastery of tools such as the Plan-Do-Check-Act Process Cycle (PDCA), Visual Performance Management or the 5S Housekeeping, Environmental and Safety legislation may be advantageous.
