What's it like to be a Travel Agent?
Travel Agents help clients make travel arrangements, including planning and booking tour packages for holidays or business travel. Their role involves finding the best deals for flights, hotels and even entertainment activities based on a customer’s budget and preferences. Travellers rely on Travel Agents to help them arrange a smooth and enjoyable trip. As a result, Travel Agents are expected to be able to communicate well, have excellent organisational skills, and be quick to solve any potential travel issues that arise.
Tasks and duties
- Planning tour packages based on a client’s length of stay, budget and preferences.
- Providing clients with options on ideal travel routes, itineraries and activities.
- Organising customised travel packages.
- Helping clients secure important documents such as visas if needed.
- Managing the booking process including reservations and payments.
- Making transportation arrangements for travellers from the airport to the hotel.
How to become a Travel Agent
While you are not required to have a tourism degree or diploma to be a Travel Agent, it can be an advantage. Many employers require candidates with at least a secondary school certificate.
