The constant need to stay up-to-date
The good thingsDynamic, rewarding and stimulating. My current company forces you to constantly upgrade yourself to keep up with latest technology and information, which is a good thing.
The challengesThe income of my company is largely from the Ministry of Education (MOE), and due to that, there is the pressure to meet their requirements. A lot of upgrading, upskilling and to stay in touch with technology is necessary.

Lack of regards for staff well being
The good thingsWorking at DAS enable you to be exposed to kids with various level of understanding. Provide valuable experience for individuals getting in into the industry.
The challengesManagement expect you to be the one stop for everything concerning to the kids. Be ready to take on several roles and waste a day of your rest day preparing for the following week. Staff benefit are non existence. Do not bother claiming for expenses as they are made to be extremely difficult. Therapist well being not taken care of as the main focus of DAS is to maximize the amount of student per educator. Great place as a stepping stone, nothing more.

Tremendous stress and constant lack of adequate rest
The good thingsThe employer managed to provide higher than average pay in exchange for working shifts. You can experience teaching different levels of students at the start of your probation. You get to interact with a small group size of 4 students per lesson.
The challengesYou do not get enough rest from working 5 irregular days. Sometimes you work till 9pm but they make you travel to some where far for training at 9am. Huge waste of time and lack of regard of your well being. Staff benefits are close to none, except for the medical card. When you give feedback to management, they will brush aside your concerns or judge you negatively. Totally not open to changes. If you don't mind being thrown to teach while undergoing 9 months part-time training and full teaching load, this job is suitable for you.

    Great Communication
The good things- My immediate supervisor, the COO, was very supportive. When I needed to pursue the career in training, he let me work part-time. - I will always remember travelling to other branches of the DAS with the top management. On the way, they will talk about their personal life. It was so much fun! - My colleagues respected me and I respected them.
The challengesThere were some challenges communicating with a colleague in the first few weeks.

    Review for mental health professionals
The good thingsWorking with children with special needs can be challenging but very rewarding. You do not need to have a background in education to teach because sometimes these children want to know what are the experiences of the working life where emphasis on education is not always the most important thing. Mental health issues are also on the rise so going into this profession can be very exciting.
The challengesBecause mental health is a relatively young industry, many people have this misconception that dealing with mental health means the person you are working with is crazy or mentally ill. The stigma is very strong and the public needs to be better educated on the different types of special needs.
