    APPLICATION INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER/SIRO

GovTech claims to be building a high-performance organization, but its internal practices tell a different story. The performance appraisal system is fundamentally flawed—biased, unfair, and lacking transparency. Despite repeated feedback, there is little to no improvement in how performance is assessed across roles. As the agency pushes forward with its in-house software development agenda, a clear and growing favoritism towards software engineers has emerged. Non-engineering roles, regardless of their critical contributions, are sidelined and undervalued during performance reviews and career advancement discussions. This favoritism has created a divide within the organization, demoralizing many capable professionals who are essential to the success of cross-functional teams. A truly high-performance culture should recognize and reward diverse skill sets, not just favor one group at the expense of others.
The good thingsProvide good training opportunity. Hybrid working environment
The challengesDoing paper for good rather than tech for public good. A lot of administrative work such as compliance and procurement. Most of the time you are spending on administrative task such as billing, preparing tender documents, resolve compliance.

Good learning experience to learn about the red-tapes and amount of paperwork in public sector.
The good thingsGood thing is you can get certification and certification and thats all GovTech cares about and thats how they measure you.
The challengesNo chance of promotion even if you work hard, it is all above sucking up to the bosses and how well you socialise your way up. Some keeps promoting every year while some after 10-15 years still the same grade.

Great place to work within government
The good thingsMgmt do encourage organisation to innovate and make differences. Staff can arrange the work-life balance style.
The challengessome of the work are public-facing, it could be challenge to manage the change management part when the idea needs to be implemented. But I guess it is not only happening in government.

Structured and large organization with cavet
The good thingsCompany is very structured and CEO is clear on his direction. Above average pay package and tons of training opportunities. Used to be slow in adopting latest technologies but have recently catch up due to hard work and new visionary CEO.
The challengesSite staff are at the mercy of the site bosses which both hq and hr has little oversight. you are lucky if you get posted to good site with good boss else usually you are just wasting your time and delay in your career progression. Promotion is more like time based and/or good rs with boss. Not really performance based as advertised on the external.

    Awesome!
The good thingsDepartment is awesome and extremely cohesive, i would love to work here if given a chance to be converted under a direct contract or perm status. Always on projects together and bosses are always there to help out whenever you need some advice. The people within the organization are also extremely friendly and would take some time out of their busy schedules to give you some advice from time to time.
The challengesConstant changes and always subjected to changes. Although it is good to pre-plan ahead for some projects, you'd always have to restart sometimes as it changes very constantly.

GovTech is a large organization but your career is much depends on your direct boss.
The good thingsMost of the colleagues are nice to work with
The challengesDepends on job assignment given; one might not be assessed fairly and lack of opportunities to upgrade as the direct boss might reject training request.

The good thingsemployer was good, hear out the stuff on what the employee has to say. work, play balance is very good here. workplace environment is very conducive. colleagues working there are also very kind and helpful.
The challengesto be the best out of all the elites there is not easy, everyone is striving hard in the department. meeting milestones or deadlines are the most challenging part of the work there.
