    Poor Leadership Overshadows Everything Else
The good thingsAlthough the director tries to portray himself as a caring manager by catering food for staff, it's clear that these gestures are used as tools for control. Free lunches are fine and considered a benefit, but employees are expected to stay in for lunch daily, with little to no flexibility to run personal errands, even during their own break time. Despite all these challenges, many employees stay because the company offers generous salaries and bonuses. Financial incentives seem to be the only reason people tolerate the poor management and toxic environment.
The challengesThe company is unofficially managed by an individual who behaves more like a dictator than a leader. He obtained his role not through merit, but because his aunt is a major shareholder. Unfortunately, his lack of competence is apparent in how the company is run. He is known for extreme micromanagement, not only within his own team but also across departments, disregarding proper hierarchy and chain of command. Employees are constantly monitored like their movements, conversations, and interactions are all watched closely, creating a tense and uncomfortable work environment. The working culture is rigid and suffocating. Staff are expected to strictly follow his rules, and he has no hesitation in shouting at or insulting employees during meetings, often belittling them with comments like "you have no brain." He has openly told his team on several occasions that “the door is always open” essentially encouraging people to leave if they can’t adapt to his style.

Authoritarian Management Style and Toxic Workplace CultureThe company operates under a strict dictatorship-style management approach, where total compliance is prioritized over leveraging employees’ skills and expertise. Employees are heavily micromanaged to the point where every movement within the office is monitored. Open communication with co-workers is discouraged, and there is little to no freedom to express opinions or engage in casual conversation. Employees are expected to remain at their desks and work continuously throughout the day. Even personal workflows, such as managing emails or files, must strictly adhere to the company's rigid standards. There is no flexibility or allowance for personal preferences or working styles. Lunch is provided for some departments, but employees are not allowed to refuse it and must eat in the office. For some departments, stepping out during lunch for personal errands is prohibited, effectively eliminating personal time during the workday. Despite years of service, employees are not recognized for their loyalty or contributions. Management shows little hesitation in terminating staff who express differing viewpoints or question decisions, reinforcing a culture of fear and control. Trust is noticeably lacking, even toward long-term employees. Daily work is primarily back-end focused, with limited interaction with clients which is unusual for a company in the insurance brokering industry. As a result, employees often do not develop or enhance relevant industry skills, even after several years in the role. While some co-workers may appear content, this is likely due to the above-average salary packages rather than genuine job satisfaction. Many remain not out of loyalty or engagement, but because the financial compensation makes it difficult to leave.

Join at your own risk.. high turnover rate for the position at particular team..
The good thingsPay normally given early than payday.
The challengesTeam dynamics and culture. No teamwork in the team despite only having 3-4 people in 1 team. Minimal guidance and supervisor expect you to know everything. Will pick on your mistakes and will not praise when you help the team to rush deadlines

    Toxic people and environment
The good things- salary received on time. - other colleagues are much more friendlier, easygoing and approachable as compared to the colleagues you are working with everyday. - some supervisors are supportive of growth and development but majority are not and preferential treatment can be seen most of the time
The challenges- staff benefits still not on par with other companies in the same markets. - company still very traditional, no development or growth in this career. - not much things to learn and no room for improvement. - have to submit daily tasks list to supervisor every day and very regimental. Not serious at work. No trust between own people, everyday will have guessing game. - colleagues does not represent themselves truefully - doesn’t mind if there are errors in the documents as documents can always be regenerated or amended - self centred and no team work - colleagues only think for themselves - discussions are more like having individual talks instead of talking openly thus not much communication between each other - no proper way of reporting system - higher staff turnover - incompetency

Need to submit daily tasks list to supervisor and feels very regimental.
The good thingsCompany is relatively OK except staff benefits are not on par with other companies in the market. The company is still very traditional style which may not be suitable for people whom are seeking growth in the careers. Some of the supervisors are supportive but majority are not really that helpful and friendly. Management willing to invest in technology but lots of employees are not adaptive to newer technology and working style.
The challengesEmployees are reluctant to changes, company is still based very heavily on paper which creates a dusty environment and more work to do on storage of files whether in office or remotely. Employees in the end have to spend more time doing manual work such in the management of paper filing. Because it does not create flexibility in the working environment. Could be a lacking of trust in employees thus causing such behavior. The environment seems to focus more on face time than results oriented. Other companies in the market have more trust in employees and flexibility and could be posting better annual financial results. Have more trust in employees that they will do their best in the tasks which they are assigned. If the company makes the employees feels a sense of belonging, they will do their best to ensure quality of work and loyalty. Lesser staff turnover means more productivity. It really does not make any sense to hire someone just to cover the headcount quickly but does not ensure that they stay long enough to contribute to the organization. The time spent to train up the new employees will be wasted if the person just left without contributing any productivity to the organization. The existing employees that have spent suffice time training up the new employees will be frustrated as well because they are becoming more like a trainer than training up employees which can help them. The company needs to stop focusing on facetime and becoming less rigid in the management style to ensure that you can attract more quality talents to help the organization grow. The requirement of clocking in and out is really getting out of trend, this may seems repressive and quality candidates may avoid joining us because they are not used to such kind of work in their previous employers. This may be the reason why they can only attract fresh candidates but not experienced ones which is essential to the company's growth. This company should assigned it as a requirement for staffs to complete external training courses such as sales tactics, computer productivity software courses such as MS office outside so they can use advanced functions in the software to help them in their productivity. It is not uncommon to see people joining and leaving after a day or two. Do not need to strive to be the best in the market but more reasonable benefits like allowing certain benefits like dental claims.

Terrible management that reflects in the old fashioned company
The good thingsCannot find any good things to comment
The challengesVery localised company who thinks ‘very highly’ of themselves. If you like old fashioned company/management who is out of touch of the world, do join them to experience for yourself. Be expected to see high turnover rate, eating lunch with your colleagues is a must, they want 100% of your time and working super late though business is not that robust, mc and leave will be scrutinised and questioned. Time in and out (even how many times u go to the loo) is being ‘studied and monitored’ by management. Don’t expect to learn anything from such a company. Good luck!

Very typical local company with high turnover.
The good thingsMost of the colleagues there are friendly and helpful. Free packet drinks at the pantry.
The challengesHigh staff turnover, you are likely to see about 1/3 of the head counts leaving and another 1/3 of new faces annually. Some of the new hires may stay on for a year or so but most left after a short stint. Eventually these new joiners are likely to leave except those who have been working there for over 10-20 years. Some of the management seems to focus too much on trivial issues which may seem like micromanaging. They do question the employees on medical claims or MCs. They do also limit on the number of visits to medical clinics near to your home and this is the first time in my life I’ve came across such rules after working for close to a decade. Staffs are expected to give 100% of your time to the company and are expected to stay on late in the office every day. They do monitor staffs attendance in an era when remote working is getting so common. People are still resigning en-masse even when the economy is still in a deep recession. You may want to consider joining just to tide over temporary but do look for better opportunities and make a switch when they arise.

The good thingsThere is good work life balance
The challengesThe accounts team is incompetent and the staff have no accounting qualification/knowledge and no proper training. They are also using an outdated system. There is nothing much to learn from this company and even the team leader has no accounting competency. I hope the management can consider hiring someone qualified and professional to lead the team.
