    Not nurturing working environment
The good thingsPerhaps the food at the canteen is cheaper than outside food
The challenges- Can be quite tiring in the travel if you are staying in the central or the east. - It is just unfortunate that the working environment I am in was not nurturing. - Not feeling welcome as a newcomer. Most of the staff are so individualistic that it's not easy to learn work stuffs from them.

A good working life balance and family-oriented environment.
The good thingsI have been with NIE for 6 years. The institute has a good working life balance and family-oriented environment. Generally, the colleagues are helpful and we supported each other quite well.
The challengesThe disadvantages of working here are the low yearly salary increment and the performance bonus.

Somethings you need to know before working in NIE
The good thingsFood is cheap, lots of canteens and fast food to choose from. There is a barber, supermarket, and some restaurants. If you arrive work on time, expect to leave work on time. You will are not be required to do any OT which is great for people who have families and kids to take care of.
The challengesPromotion can be slow. If you live far away it can be a pain to travel, it's really deep in the west. Traveling via public transport takes 20-25 minutes by BUS from Boonlay MRT to NTU campus. If you drive there will be a jam between 8 am - 8: 30 am at both PIE exits.

Good part time pay at NIE
The good thingsMy colleagues are friendly. The work is simple, but too simple. The pay is good.
The challengesTranscribing is my least favourite job. You can't get a full time job here unless you have a degree, which they take a month to tell you after all your background checks.

    Dynamic work environment
The good thingsThe PI allows a very big space of freedom to your work and communicates with you. Most People here are friendly and easy to work with.
The challengesThe flexibility that comes with the work means that you also might need to work within the means of certain time frame of the year. Also, sometimes weekends maybe sacrificed.

    Good for short term stay
The good things- Great work life balance - The overall workload is relatively less stressful than most companies in Singapore - Great colleagues to work with in the department - Customers faced are mostly desirable
The challenges- Upper management needs improvement - Employees should be rewarded accordingly to their job performance - Provide more permanent positions instead of heading towards contract positions

Good but it could have been better
The good thingsLots of professional development opportunities. Good welfare system. Canteen food is reasonable good and affordable.
The challengesToo many redtapes. No matter how hardworking or resourceful you are, you have to ensure the seniors boot licking to your bosses for good performance ratings and promotions. The campus design although is award winning but the layout is not people orentiated, expect to get lost.

NIE as a whole was good, family oriented, friendly student teachers and lecturers but the department i was posted to gave me a very unpleasant memory and experience.i dont think i was performing that bad to deserve what i felt there so i left for good. I
The good thingsNIE culture, family oriented, met really good friends randomly from other departments in the course of work..i would have love to stay there otherwise.

PhD, Masters and Degree holders does not mean smart workers
The good thingsMy department bosses are good, some listen and understand and knows when you are not felling good. but some knows yet avoid the problem. When problem occurs, they panic and put in containment measures that are only temporary.
The challengesAlways around lots of people with higher education, can write very good papers and reports. But, unable to work hands-on on many other things. They are clever but not smart, no common sense somethings and very dependent on low grade staff to solve the problem. But know how to claim the credit when done.
