The Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) is the national association of company directors for the local business community. SID promotes the professional development of directors and corporate leaders. It works closely with the authorities and regulators, its network of members and professionals, such as accountants and lawyers, to identify ways to uphold and enhance the highest standards of corporate governance and ethical conduct.Formed in 1998, the Institute now has over 2,000 members, comprising mainly directors of listed companies, industry leaders, accountants, lawyers and other professionals involved in the field of corporate governance. It has a 20-member Governing Council. Through its training programmes, it aims to increase the pool of persons who are suitable to serve as non-executive independent directors in listed companies.
