What's it like to be a Business Development Executive?
A Business Development Executive, sometimes also known as Business Development Representative or Sales Development Representative, works closely with internal solutions partners, Account Managers, and Sales Representatives to drive sales. They help to improve the business by deeply understanding customers’ requirements and finding cold leads. Their work involves a lot of networking and presence at company events.
Tasks and duties
- Researching new growth opportunities in the market.
- Collaborating with internal sales stakeholders to develop risk-mitigating business solutions and growth plans.
- Engaging with marketing teams to act on sales leads.
- Helping plan customer-facing activities such as trade shows and conferences.
- Networking and building connections with potential clients.
How to become a Business Development Executive
To work as a Business Development Executive, formal education is required.

Graduate with a bachelor degree in business or a related field.

Gain one to two years’ worth of experience in account development and/or project management. A proven track record in growing sales is advantageous.

Progress to a role such as a Business Development Manager, Chief Business Development Officer, Account Executive, or Account Manager.
