What's it like to be an Insurance Broker?
Insurance Brokers connect clients with insurers. They work with their clients to assess risks, understand their client's needs, recommend suitable coverage solutions and build relationships with insurers. Insurance Brokers need to understand the many different insurance products available on the market to help their clients make educated insurance decisions.
Tasks and duties
- Assessing a client’s insurance needs and risk profiles.
- Investigating insurance policies and negotiating coverage terms with insurers.
- Offering expert advice regarding various insurance options and policy details.
- Customising insurance packages to meet a client’s needs.
- Managing policy renewals, claims management and any changes for clients.
- Staying on top of industry trends and changes to regulations.
How to become an Insurance Broker
You usually need relevant training and/or a certification to become an Insurance Broker. In some cases, you may also need a licence.

Many insurance brokers undertake industry-specific courses or certifications such as those provided by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). These courses provide industry-relevant knowledge of products and regulations.

Acquire any necessary licences. Depending on the types of insurance products you intend to sell, it may be necessary to hold licences from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
