Landscaper
What's it like to be a Landscaper?
Landscapers design functional and aesthetic outdoor spaces for residential and commercial properties. They are responsible for creating a space's blueprint, assembling tiles, cement work, and fountains, and assembling and maintaining greenery. Landscapers design gardens, sports fields, parks and cemeteries. They may work as freelancers or at landscaping firms.
Tasks and duties
- Planting and maintaining greenery conducive to an outdoor space.
- Maintaining and repairing plumbing, timber and drainage in an outdoor space.
- Assembling artificial ponds, fountains, statues and similar fixtures.
- Operating plant watering equipment.
- Rehashing and repairing landscapes according to client instructions.
- Ordering and budgeting equipment and gardening supplies.
How to become a Landscaper
A university degree is not a requirement to become a Landscaper, although knowledge of gardening, maintenance, and the ability to assemble a functional and aesthetic space are necessary.

Gain experience in gardening by practising at home, volunteering for friends and family, or joining fundraisers and charity organisations that require landscaping.

Consider taking a landscaping and horticulture course to give you an advantage in getting hired.

Apply at a landscaping firm, or start your own freelance landscaping business.

Advance to higher positions such as Landscaping Crew Leader.
