What's it like to be a Pharmacist?
A Pharmacist may work in a retail pharmacy, hospital or clinic. They give medication advice to customers and provide specific medications for customers with prescriptions. They may work irregular hours as many pharmacies are open 24 hours a day. Pharmacists should have good communication skills to interact with customers who have questions about prescriptions.
Tasks and duties
- Reviewing and understanding prescriptions.
- Dispensing correct medicines.
- Managing the inventory of pharmacy stock.
- Counselling customers on appropriate medication.
- Keeping records of purchases.
How to become a Pharmacist
To work as a Pharmacist, formal education is required.

Graduate with a Singapore degree in pharmacy or a qualification in pharmacy from a tertiary institution overseas that is recognised by the Singapore Pharmacy Council (SPC).

For Singapore pharmacy degree holders, gain at least one year of experience and register with the SPC.
- 3.
For SPC-recognised qualification holders, you must have proof of licensure and registration as a Pharmacist from your country of origin. Gain at least three months of experience in an SPC-approved establishment and pass the SPC-prescribed competency and forensic exams. Once these are fulfilled, register as a Pharmacist with the SPC within 12 months.
