Tasks and duties
- Operating ultrasound equipment to produce and record images according to a Doctor's request.
- Assessing and interpreting diagnostic images to provide preliminary findings for Doctors.
- Establishing and maintaining effective communication with patients to ensure a comfortable and effective scanning process.
- Maintaining patients' records and add medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure.
- Performing routine maintenance on sonographic equipment to ensure it's operational and safe.
- Keeping up to date with advancements in sonography through continuing education and professional development activities.
- Adhering to health and safety standards and protocols to protect patients and staff from radiation exposure.
How to become a Sonographer
To become a sonographer, you need at least a diploma or associate degree in sonography or its equivalent. Further studies can also give you an edge, especially if you want to specialise or pursue a leadership role.
- 1.Complete a diploma or associate or bachelor’s degree in Sonography, Medical Imaging, Radiology, or a related field.
- 2.Join internships or clinical placements to gain hands-on experience with ultrasound equipment and interpreting sonographic images.
- 3.Register with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) to practice sonography in Singapore.
- 4.Pursuing a specialisation could make you stand out. Consider acquiring certifications for obstetrics, vascular, or musculoskeletal ultrasonography.
