What's it like to be a Field Service Engineer?
Field Service Engineers are responsible for servicing, repairing and maintaining equipment or machinery utilised in various sectors, such as technology, healthcare, energy and transportation. This role often requires travelling to different locations, as these engineers work onsite to diagnose and resolve problems directly. They provide hands-on operational support, ensuring that the equipment operates efficiently and meets a company's needs. Field Service Engineers work closely with customers, providing technical assistance and fostering customer relationships as part of their day-to-day tasks.
Tasks and duties
- Installing new equipment, conducting routine maintenance and troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment.
- Performing on-site or remote assessment, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Providing detailed documentation on each service and repair performed, including information on any parts, tools or procedures used.
- Communicating effectively with clients, explaining technical information in a way that is easy to understand.
- Adhering to all safety and compliance guidelines during work operations.
- Building and handling client relationships, providing support as required and ensuring prompt communication of any problems or issues encountered.
- Training customers to operate and maintain new equipment.
